Safe Sleep

Prior to any thoughts of sleep training. The number 1 priority should be ensuring that baby has a safe sleep space.

Safe Sleep Guidelines

Baby should have his/her own sleep surface in the parent’s room.

Baby should not sleep on an adult bed.

 

Ensure baby has a firm, flat sleep surface.

No soft sleep surfaces

 

Baby should always be placed on his/her back to sleep at night and naps.

 

Dress baby in sleep clothes. Do not over bundle.  Ensure nothing is covering baby’s head.

No loose blankets.

 

Nothing should be in baby’s sleep area.

No crib bumpers.

No toys.

No pillows.

No blankets.

Only baby on his/her back on a fitted sheet in sleep clothes.
