Crying……

Babies cry.

Children cry.

Crying is going to happen.

If you sleep train there will be crying.

If a method, book , blog, post, or consultant tells you there will be no crying, they are not telling you the truth.

For babies and children who do not have expressive speech, crying is how they communicate.  Cries vary. I am sure you have heard a person say, that’s a hungry cry or that’s a mad cry.  Similar to verbal communication, care givers begin to recognize and react appropriately to different cries.

Bottomline there will be crying. How you react to the crying is what will differ between families.

For parents who do not want crying, a high parental involvement sleep training method would be best. The crying maybe less, but the time it will take for the method to be effective will be longer than the less involved methods

No parental involvement will have the most crying to begin with, but it is the quickest method to be effective.

There are methods that fall in the middle.

All methods have crying. No involvement may actually produce the least amount of crying as it takes a few nights to come together. Whereas high involvement methods may have less daily crying, they take weeks to work, so cumulatively there is more crying.

It all comes down to what you are comfortable with.

There is no right or wrong way.

Please be mindful to never pass judgement on other families.

They may have a different path, but that does not make their path wrong.

No matter what, there will be tears.
